10 Plastic-Free Swaps You Can Make This Week

Going plastic-free sounds like a lifestyle overhaul. It is not. It is a series of small trades, made one at a time, that quietly add up. Here are ten swaps you can make this week without changing how you live.

In the kitchen

1. Silicone food bags instead of zip-top baggies. One set replaces hundreds of single-use bags a year, and they go in the dishwasher.

2. Glass jars for pantry storage. Rice, oats, beans, coffee. You can see what you have, and nothing goes stale in a half-open plastic sleeve.

3. Natural fiber sponges and brushes. Coconut fiber and sisal scrub just as hard as plastic sponges, then compost instead of shedding microplastics.

4. Reusable food wrap instead of cling film. Wrap the bowl, wash the wrap, repeat for years.

In the bathroom

5. Shampoo and body bars. One bar outlasts two or three plastic bottles, and travels better too.

6. A bamboo toothbrush. Same clean, no plastic handle in a landfill for centuries.

7. Reusable cotton rounds. Wash and reuse instead of tossing a cotton pad every night.

Out and about

8. A stainless steel bottle or tumbler. The single easiest swap there is. Fill it once and skip the plastic bottle entirely.

9. Cotton mesh produce bags. Keep a few folded in your tote and the thin plastic roll at the store becomes irrelevant.

10. A canvas tote that lives by the door. The trick is not owning one. It is keeping it where you will actually grab it.

Pick two or three this week. Progress beats perfection, every time.
